Born in the Poltava Governorate of the Russian Empire (present-day Ukraine)... Dawn’s Forest is Louise Nevelson’s largest, most complex environmental sculpture and her last major work. Created in the artist’s signature assemblage style, the monumental sculpture is made of various white-painted abstract wood elements. In 1935, Louise Nevelson showed her work for the first time in a museum exhibition, Young Sculptors, at the Brooklyn Museum. Louise Nevelson: Dawns and Dusks will be on view at PaceWildenstein, 534 West 25th Street from February 13 through March 14, 2009. The Jewish Museum will present The Sculpture of Louise Nevelson: Constructing a Legend, the first major American survey of her work since 1980, from May 5 through September 16, 2007.
